Working within the systems that shape what can be built.

Studio Sutura is an architecture practice based in Los Angeles. Our work explores how places are made: through the relationship between a site, the people who use it, and the materials and methods of construction. We approach each project as an opportunity to bring these considerations into a clear architectural idea.

Begin with the conditions

Every project starts with what is already there. We look at the site, its surroundings, existing structures, and the requirements that shape its possibilities. Understanding these conditions helps us decide where to intervene, what to retain, and what a project can become.

Make room for everyday life

Architecture is experienced through daily routines: arriving, gathering, working, and finding a place to pause. We begin with questions about how a space will be used and what matters to the people using it. These conversations guide decisions about light, movement, privacy, and proportion.

Think through making

Drawings, models, and material studies help us test ideas at different scales. We are interested in how an overall concept carries through to a structural frame, a joint, or a material transition. Construction is part of the design inquiry from the beginning.

Use resources with intention

We aim to make deliberate choices about space, material, and effort. This means considering what can be reused, where a simple solution is sufficient, and where greater attention will make a meaningful difference. We value spaces that can remain useful as needs change.
